96 Yamaha 25 HP water pump

Hi can anyone tell me how to unhook the shift linkage on this motor I am trying to change the water pump and I can not get it off<br />Thank You

hello<br /> well the first step in any project should be a thouhrough reading and understanding of the procedures outlined in the service manual. failing that, if you look closely at the space between the exhaust housing and the steering swivel you will see a 10mm nut jammed against a 10 mm barrel nut. that is the shift disconnect.<br /> if you have any questions regarding a particular step in the service manual I will try to help. if your winging it with no manual or training let us know.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Yes I am winging it at this time my son has the book and is not home at this time. I have removed all the bolts and I have loosenes the barrel not from the 10 mm nut and it backs up several turns and then gets hard to turn I have been soaking it with blaster but did not know if I should keep turning it or not.

Thank You for the information it worked fine I just kept using blaster to free up the conection.

Hi <br />Any tricks to geting the shift linkage back into the botom of the motor. Looks like it should be fun

hello<br /> yep <br /> follow the manual<br /> actually its fairly easy on that motor. its imperitive you quit winging it before you destroy it. when people bring me dead motors from winging it I double the labor rate.<br /> its just how busness works.<br /> good luck and keep posting but get the book in front of ya
