I have read this entire forum, and there is some GREAT info, but I have one more question.

I have an '87-ish DT8C in which water was coming out of the quarter-sized exhaust hole, but only dripping out the peehole. I sprayed carb cleaner and stuck some wire into the hole, and it seemed to work for a minute, but clogged right up again.

2 questions:
1. As long as water's coming out of the exhaust and I know that it's possible for it to come out the peehole, is it OK to run that way, or is it necessary for the peehole to be completely clear?
2. Is there any way shy of taking off the powerhead that I can unclog the peehole? Airpressure? Some sort of solvent? Drill? Hammer?

Thank you in advance.
Jed

P.S. Water pump and t-stat are new

The pee hole is just an indicator. It is possible for your cooling system to function normally with it completely plugged up. HOWEVER, you need to investigate why the pee hole isn't flowing, because low pressure in the cooling systme may cause a dribbling pee stream and that would indicate problems with your cooling system somewhere.

Thank you jimd.

When I unplug the hole, the stream comes out quite nicely, but it just clogs back up within about 10 seconds. I would guess that there's a chunk of something floating around in there. I was just curious if it can run without that particular stream of water.

Thanks again!
Jed

I don't know that particular engine but you may be able to temporarily disconnect the hose that goes to the outer nipple that makes the pee stream. Perhaps the crud just can't make it through the nipple and will wash out through the slightly larger hose.

I'm sure that would work, but the water path must be inside/under the power head. Thanks for the help anyways.

Jed
