I have twin 1989 130 hp Yamahas. I recently bought this boat and do not know how many hours are on the motors. they seem to run fine, i just thought they would benefit from de carbing. I bought the deep creep and was ready to do it but my local dealer advised me not to do it on that old of a motor, he said the carbon may be helping the rings seal. I have been an auto tech for 27 years and I know it helps 4 stroke engines regardles of miles. what should I do?

Howdy, Gator.

Correctly done, a decarb does not always help, but I don't think it can do any harm.

If deposits were "helping seal" the rings, the rings are stuck and need replacement. Just like a 4 stroke.

Good luck. :)

hello
yep I gotta go with JB on this.
if you have that much carbon in a two stroke ring it will bite the dust anyway.
should not hurt
good luck and keep posting

Johndoe: Decarbing refers to removing the carbon build-up on the pistons, rings, and combustion chamber. Although many at this forum know more about the process than I do, from what I have been able to gather, it can be done by aerosol sprays through the carburator or by an additive to the gasoline. If you do a search at this web-site, you will find tons of reader information and opinions. DuPont
