I have a Yamha 2003 F60 4 stroke outboard with a jet that has been to the yamaha dealership numerous times for repair, the motor will run good for a couple of days after getting it back from the shop then will have dramatic power loss and will smoke badly at startup. The dealership cannot seem to fix this problem any ideas?

Do you trim the engine all the way up when no in use? Its a common problem to smoke on start up if the engine is trim all the way up. If you trim the engine down and let it sit befor you start it. It will not smoke as much. I don't agree with that but its the only thing we have found that works. Some oil will build up in the air box and leak out the front of the engine too.

Re: Yamaha 4 stroke Smokes

The motor is trimmed down when taken out of the water and also when hauling it and whenever it is in storage, I dont leave it trimmed up only when there is an obstruction in the water or leaves that i dont want to get sucked into the jet, there is also power loss after a few days of getting it back from the shop, I cannot seem to figure this out. The motor runs great for a few days and will not smoke then it will start to smoke on startup and large power loss is noticable. I dont know why the power will decrease so rapidly, is there anything else that maybe i have not checked? I also run high octane fuel through it hoping that will keep it running better, any suggestions?
