I have a 2003 F225TXRB that runs fine at cruising speed but idles rough when I come down to idle for about 10 to 15 seconds then settles down. Sometimes it will stall. the dealer changed my plugs and fuel filter but problem still persists. Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions? Idle is about 650rpms.

you will need to have a thoughrough diagnoses and find out why the system wont stabilize.that motor is EFI and either runs correctly or its broke.<br /> good luck and keep posting

don't remember all the info but there was a tech bull. on too much pressure? building in the vst and there was a kit to fix this on your motor, call your local dealer they should have the info...

thanx for the replys rodbolt, rowbards. i dont want to damage my motor but i dont want to wait 2 to 3 weeks to get it looked at either. the guys are pretty busy right now. do you think i could cause more problems down the road by putting this off?

You shouldn't do any damage, you may just need a good sync and adj, tps, linkages, balance...

Re: 4 stroke yammi/rough idle

Hi All,

I have the same engine (F225TXRB) w/ 150 hrs that has the exact issue. I was out over the long weekend pulling tubers and skiers and going 10-15 min WOT. When I slowed down, the engine idled rough (~600-650 rpm) for a few seconds. Occassionally it would shutoff. However, after restarting or waiting for a few seconds, it would run fine again. Higher rpm's had no problems.

What was the solution or fix?

Thanks,
Jack

Re: 4 stroke yammi/rough idle

next time its acting up put your finger on the ISC valve, if its to hot to touch it may be failing. the valve sometimes gets to hot and mechanically binds and cannot move, then it gets really hot. if it cant move or is sticky it cannot control idle air and the result is rough running and stalling, most common when deaccelerating.
to my knowledge there are no tech bullitens about excessive fuel rail pressure, there is a tech bulliten on excessively rich starts due to the fuel percolation when the engine is shut off hot.
with a temp gun the ISC normally runs around 130*F, abnormal ones run over 200*F.
EFI is incredibly easy to trouble shoot if you can make the problem repeat.
on the laptop the symptoms will show up as a higher than normal manifold pressure for the amount of throttle opening, in fact occasionally a tech will replace the map sensor due to a code when in fact it was the ISC.
if the fuel rail is overpressurizing it will create a very rich fuel mix but is easy to detect with a fuel pressure gauge and is normally due to a bad pressure regulator.

Re: 4 stroke yammi/rough idle

Thank you very much rodbolt. I will check ouot this valve out the next time it happens. This is the 5th time I've taken out my boat and the 1st time that it has ever happened. I was driving it pretty hard (pulling skiers) on the day that it happened. Perhaps the added stress and heat caused the failure?

Now the only question is where is the ISC valve. I've been meaning to pick up a service manual. Can you recommend a good one (Clymer, Seloc, Yamaha OEM, etc)

Thanks again,
Jack

the ISC valve is located on the top of the port intake manifold, you will see 2 3/4" grey rubber hoses going to it.
the F225 throttle shutters have no bypass holes and the air for idle is metered by the ISC (IAC for the rest of the world).
