how to unhook oil injection?????

I am going to buy a 16 foot hewes craft boat with a 90 horse power yamaha jet outboard on it. Its a 1994 model and I want to mix my fuel rather than have an oil injection unit ruin the motor. How do you unhook it thanks.

why would you want to do that?<br /> the system is almost bullet proof. out of all the lubrication failures I see I see more related to premix than auto mix other than the guys who leave the oil fill funnel in the bilge with salt and sand. <br />good luck but I really dont know how to remove it.

I agree with rodbolt that it is not a good idea. Too many stopped up carbs if the motor is not used very regularly. You can remove it by disconnecting and removing the tank, oil pump and pump shaft. You must block off all the lines and block the hole in the crankcase where the oil pump went. Using good oil such as Yamalube with the present system has been the best method for long live of the engine though.

I have a friend that lost his engine to an oil pump failure,(120 horse jonhnson outboard) he is now premixing his oil and it works fine. I am not to familiar with the yamaha engine that I am getting, maybe I should leave it alone.

You are not buying a Johnson (OMC). You are buying a Yamaha. Different oil injection systems. Go with the guys above that know and keep the injection system. Just do the recommended maintenance on it.

So what is the recomended maintenance, I will be getting this boat on saturday. I plan on doing a test drive and a compression check before I hand him the money. thanks

dude<br /> my 120 is still VRO. the OMC system works well if maintained. most supposed oil failures I see with OMC are due to customer neglect not component failure. most techs just blame the pump cause they cant figgure out what caused the problem. I have another that crabs that still has VRO and has run with fuel reciepts over 13 thousand gallons of gas through it since 1998. so much for the VRO theory.<br /> good luck and keep posting but it all comes down to do you have a well maintained precision high performance machine or is it a neglected beast that is waiting to die?
