Suzuki fuel problem

Hi guys. Got my hands on a 2001 40hp EFI Suzuki. Gas is not making it to the injectors. The fuel comes in from the tank goes through a clear ?filter? then into the pump on the back of the motor then enters the engine on the left side of the motor. The fuel makes it this far ok and the pump is working fine. I disconnected the outlet hose from the pump and turned the engine over and plenty of gas sprayed out. However, no fuel is coming out of the left side and going to the injectors. Is this a computer problem? What is the aluminum box on the left side where the fuel goes into and comes out of? On the bottom of this aluminum box is a drain screw so you can drain sediment out. I opened it up and clean clear fuel came out. There is a black filter on the top left side of the motor right before the gas goes to the injectors and no gas is making it to this filter. Sorry for the long winded post. Thank you for your help.

Howdy, WN.<br /><br />I consider it a bad idea to work on any outboard without a Service Manual.<br /><br />A computer managed, EFI 4 stroke is greatly more complex than a simple 2 stroke carbed engine.<br /><br />Get a Service Manual.<br /><br />Don't have a DF40 manual, so I can't advise you further.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

Re: Suzuki fuel problem

Thanks JB. I'm at the point where I'll just take it in as I don't understand the computer or EFI systems. I was just hoping it was something mechanical I could fix or at the least have an idea about what I'm looking at in terms of repairs. This motor is crazy complicated compared to what I'm used to. Better to let the expert look at it. Thanks for your help.

The aluminum box contains the fuel pump. If you are not getting fuel to the black filter on top, pump is bad or no power to pump.

the above mentioned fuel pump is your<br /> "high pressure fuel pump"<br /> its job is to boost fuel pressure to final injection pressure.<br />p/s <br />i agree with jb pls get a <br />factory service manual

Ok. Thanks for the replys. This is the information I was looking for. I like being able to point the mechanic in the right direction. I'm getting gas to the high pressure pump, but nothing is coming out. I guess either the pump is bad or the computer is not working right. Thanks again. I'll post after I get it fixed.
