Suzuki DT25C carb-water pump trouble

My '96 Suzuki 25 horse started blowing raw gas and oil out the main exhaust port, and the lower spark plug came loose and was leaking fuel-oil around it. Suspected stuck bowl float or reed-valve trouble and tried running it with rabbit ears and water hose, then water pump quit. What's going on? Was running fine at high speed until this happened, and motor still sounds OK.??

Dave

Re: Suzuki DT25C carb-water pump trouble

Need more info on this. Was it blowing raw fuel out the exhaust because 1 cylinder wasn't firing? Or perhaps your fuel pump has a hole in the diapharagm which willl let it inject unmetered fuel into the ports of the cylinder to which it is attached. Is the spark plug hole that was loose stripped or was the plug just not in tight.

Don't evaluate your water pump (or the cooling system) on the muffs. Put it back in the water you may have a poor fit with the muffs. Does your Suzuki have a high water pickup under the cavitation plate (just above the prop) in addition to the low water pickup? If so you need to tape it off with duct tape when on the muffs.

Re: Suzuki DT25C carb-water pump trouble

Thanks Jimd. I took it to a guy who works on Suzuki motors, he said he thought the fuel pump diaphragm was leaking. The raw fuel was going down to lowest cylinder and fouling the plug and then blowing out the exhaust hole. You right, I did not cover the intake port under the cavitation plate, since I have run the motor numerous times in the yard with the muffs and the extra intake not covered, and seemed to do fine. Maybe the water pump is OK and just have a fuel pump problem - I hope so, since Suzuki parts are the highest priced on the market. Thanks again. I'll let you know what mechanic finds.
