Similar posts have been made but still need help.
Yellow oil warning lite comes on although remote reservoir full. Computer thinks tank empty and does not pump oil to engine reservoir. With manual switch activated pump operates and fills engine tank. Engine then operates normally till this reservoir runs down, then cuts out as it goes into protection mode. Red lite comes on. Filters clean. Lines clean. Removed float assembly in remote tank and seems okay, although I can't figure out how that little styrofoam float works. Obviously pump works. Thanks
Laird

hello
test the circuit at the tank. with the remote tank full you should have continuity between the B and Br wires. if not replace the switch, if so back up to the engine and repeat the test.
good luck and keep posting

Re: 1994 Yamaha 200 hp oil injection problem

Just got back from boat.I have continuity B/Br so looks like tank float OK.. Tested harness lead contiuity to connector in cowling. No continuity on black wire. Tried cleaning connectors,no luck. Will return this PM with various implements to see if can get contacts clean. In meantime have ordered new harness. Will keep all posted
Laird

Re: 1994 Yamaha 200 hp oil injection problem

Had same issue with my '87 175.

I buzzed oput the switch and thought I found a problem. Replaced it but to no avail. It was the Computer module. I think on the '94's the module is all part of the one large Circuit board. On the '87 it was a small module that is on the Port side. If you turn the Key off and on will it sometimes kick on and fill the reservior?
Module $125..OUCH

Black wire was pinched in wiring harness where it enters cowling. Shorted out. Lucky did not work its way to module. Ran temp wire and all functions now ok .New harness on order $75Can
Laird

black wire is ground. it can only open
if it short to a positive wire someplace it blows fuses.
its common. that is why I said if the switch passes to back up and re run the test at the enine harness connector, if it works at the switch and not the harness you have it isolated.
glad ya found it.

Re: 1994 Yamaha 200 hp oil injection problem

Replaced oil reservoir wiring harness and pump, guages etc ok. Problem occurred as I was preparing for winter storage.Left motor trimmed up and forget key in switch in on position.Quite some time later as I was checking boat out noticed oil all over ground. All oil has pumped from remote reservoir to engine reservoir and out the carbs. Battery ran down. Obviously something was telling remote pump that tank reservoir was empty.Any ideas. Will have to attack this pronto when I take boat out of storage in a month or so.
Regards
Laird

Re: 1994 Yamaha 200 hp oil injection problem

hahahah
it bit ya :)
it was a common problem. as the battery died the internal circuits would sense a low engine tank and turn on. the pump would start pumping and never stop.
if your lucky only a mess was made. but sometimes it will burn up a pump and or control module. the motors with a seperate box had a mercury switch to prevent oil transfer when tilted, later they used a signal from the trim switch now they use a signal from the tach circuit to prevent transfer unless its running. there is one exception to that but its not pertanint here. moral is buy a battery switch and use it regularly

hello
a ps.
drain the excess oil from the airbox. tilt the motor down, pull the stop switch ,pull the plugs and crank the moror over. the excess oil can hydro lock the motor

Rodbolt,

I am on the same page as you. With everyone wanting to sue and the legalities of making something operational that was not using manufacture's or industry approved procedures, I do not take in "junk", homebuilts, or jury-rigged units.

Rodbolt, you know that it is that time of year. The people that buy that junk and bring it to you know it is just a minor thing wrong too. It will go away in another month or so. Hate the time they eat up even we you say no right off.

Re: 1994 Yamaha 200 hp oil injection problem

I know but every year it gets worse. I may start a thread about entry level boating and how its really going away. gone are the days of the cheap, fun reliable, even if thisty, 14ft semi V boats with 40 motors. now its to expensive for the average guy to buy a 24 center console with a V6. costs more than my first house.
sometimes I even worry about being sued by posting. its a lawyer crazy world anymore
