I went through almost 100 posts and didn't really see a match to my problem. My 1991 dt65 starts, idles, and runs good except at 3900-4200(WOT). During this time the engine "sputters" sporadically. It still feels/sounds like it is starving for gas but the bulb is hard/firm. I do occasionally have trouble on a restart after sitting for more than 20 min. The engine acts like it is cold, starting but dies when throttle is applied. If I let it idle for 2-3 minutes when this happens it runs fine. I have not troubleshot any further than electrically testing the "oil reset switch" on the advice of fellow suzuki owner, and I replaced the fuel supply line from the tank to the engine and checked the tank vents, but no luck on that. Not sure what to try next. Please help if you can. Thanks

Re: DT 65 Sputters

Sounds to me like one or more of your carbs has some deposits (gum, dirt, or nameless crud) building up in the jet orifices. It is probably making the engine run lean especially at certain rpms. Pull the carbs and do a thorough cleaning/rebuild (which isn't difficult) using carb cleaner AND compressed air (buy a can of air at Radio Shack if you don't have a compressor). Install the rebuild kit and reset the float height and idle air screws to manual specs.
