I have a 1995 C40 2 cyl Yamaha that the tilt motor housing has rusted through. I have applied Marine Tex over the hole for the last 2 or 3 years but the rust has gotten progressively worse and I afraid it's going to leave me dead in water somewhere at the least best time. It appears that the engine will have to be removed fom the transom to replace the motor due to a mounting screw located on the back left side of the trim motor. Am I looking at this right or is there a trick someone knows? Thanks in advance. :)

Re: trim motor replacement

don't know how well this will cross over to your motor, but here goes.

i had to replace my trim motor on my 200hp suzuki several years ago. i encountered a similar problem. the suzuki has 3 bolts securing the motor to the pump. one of them was tight up against the transom bracket.

1.) my solution was to tilt the motor up fully.
2.) support the tilted motor at the bottom of the lower unit.
3.) remove fasteners to my right transom bracket
4.) with the bracket tilted i was able to access the bolt and change the motor.
5.) reverse to reassemble.

good luck, hope it works out for you.
