I am looking at an engine that was left on the "on" setting (not running, but lights on). After replacing the battery, it still won't start. Do these engines have a fusible link or could the computer have fried from being left on?

Thank you....

check that the safety lanyard is installed correctly. if it is try again with the main engine harness disconnected and jumping the starter solenoid.

No, disconnecting the main harness bypasses the ign. key and kill switch.
Does it have spark?

Yes, there is spark...how would I shut the engine off if harness is disconnected?

Choking it should kill it. Will have to do it manually though.

Maybe a day or so? I have a deposit on a boat with this engine, the seller said it runs great...he and I came to an agreement on the price subject to hearing it run...Now, he can't get it running.

Stick to your guns on getting it running before you buy. I had a 91 Yamaha 90 which I used to run all the fuel out of the carbs for storage and had mistaken left the ignition on several times over the years, even for multiple days and it had never causd a problem.

Turns out...dirty carbs ..what is with this Yami's and dirty carbs...

Is there any part of the carb that is more prone to build up?

For the past fews Yamaha's I have been taking everything apart inside the carb and spraying with carb cleaner...

Is there a more scientific procedure....Nick

Stripping them down, soaking over night and blowing out with air is my method.
