I have a 99' 150 HP Yamaha OB Jet -- I have a problem that in very shallow water I pick up sand / shells & injest it directly into the water pump unfortunatly directly located over the jet screw. Now I'm pulling my heads down to unpack the sand. --- has any one succesfully re-plumed the water pickup (for cooling the engine) thru the 1/4" pipe tap on the side of the jet? Any other ideas?

Dave B.

Oh yeah -- I got the hoover part down pat. Seems the jet can tolrate trash but the genius that set up the water intake for the engine on top of the jet prop will always have a special place in my heart.

Muffler?

No suggestions on a back flush? or is this a tear down?

Opptional water pick up?

hello
the steel tube in the nozzle
it rusts
it will also cause a tech that has never seen the problem some gray hairs:) :)
about the only way i know to unsand it is to remove the heads and covers. usually the exhaust cover can be left alone.
thats why for flood rescue jets suck. I tried to tell our local police/fire rescue but they bought one and its always mudded up or full of milfoil and dead. I tried to talk them into a hovercat for about 1000 more dollars. for what they have spent trying to keep a jet running they could have bought two hover cats

Thanks for the tip & I'll ck the tube. What sort of undesireable side effects will this rusted out tube generate?

Are there temp sensors on both heads?

Dave

two temp switches. one on each head.
when the muffler lets go it will act like carbs or a stator problem. it will idle well and make no power. the water pressure tries to back up the exhaust and resticts it. if the engine cant breathe it wont turn up. I have seen techs changing powerpack and carbs and all kinds of things
then find the 25 dollar tube is bad :)
