I am looking for a new two-sroke kicker in the 8 to 15 h.p. range, and would prefer a Yamaha? Did Yamaha ever make such an engine with a long (20") shaft?

rodbolt:

I first looked at Yamaha's website and later called my local Yamaha dealer. I was told the 15 h.p. only came with a 15 inch shaft.

Thanks for the heads up. I will certainly check further.

I went there and didn't see 20s listed for any model on the page. That's not possible. 20" transoms have been pretty much the standard for 20 years or more by now. I believe the only reason they listed only 15" models is to show the lightest weight model. It's kinda spelled out in the notes below the chart. It's awfully hard to find a new boat with a 15" transom anymore. The dealer told you WRONG! I'd probably find one that knows the product they sell. Sounds like that one has been keeping their heads in the sand for a couple of decades now. :(
