when was the last fuel pump service? may as well replace it while your doing the carbs. the "cough" is almost 100% of the time dirty idle circuits. are your carbs single float or dual float?

My carbs are dual float. Is there any way to clean the circuits with out a rebuild?

nope
the dual float has the idle fuel jets in the bowl.they are under the small brass slotted plug at the bottom of the bowl. two in each bowl pointing striaght down. dont lose the small metal gaskets as new ones are not supplied in the overhaul kit.

I’m in the process of doing mine right now. Was nervous at first but did one last night and with do the other shortly. Just lay out all the pieces in order and make some notes as you go, not hard to do. I could not believe the crap in them. So far one idle circuit was completely clogged, now I know why mine would not idle.

Does anyone know the part number for the rebuild kit. My local dealer is not very helpful. My carb model number is 6j900,also how much do they usually cost?

rebuild kits go by engine model number found on the side of your transom bracket. go armed with that number and you shouldnt have a problem.

I gave that number on the transom bracket and the dealer said that there was not enough numder and letters. He said he try to find the kits for me but never got back to me.The numbers on the bracket are PROV 150j the code is 6j9L.Those are the only numbers on the motor.

nope
usually the bowl gasket comes apart when you remove the bowl. the idle jets are located under the small screws coming up from the bottom of the bowl. dont lose the gaskets for the idle ful plugs as they dont come in the kit. new plugs do but not the gasket.if you put the floats back on exactly where they came off of and use yamaha kits they normally will be within the .020" tolerance. but ya still have to check the float height
