I just installed a new yamaha multufunction tach and cant figure out the hour meter i push set the hour number disapears does any one have instructions or know how to set the trip meter<br />Thanks wes

Tachometer:<br /><br />First, Your outboard must have support for hours to be displayed on the guage. Yamaha startad to include hour meter in the digital tachometer in 2002.<br />Assuming Your outboard can give the tachometer hours this is how it works (according to the Owners manual).<br /><br />It can be set to display:<br />- total (engine) hours, <br />- hours for current trip,<br />- nothing (off)<br /><br />To change what is shown press MODE buttom util it is displayed what is desired.<br />It shows in circular pattern Total hours - Trip hours - Off etc etc.<br /><br />To reset Trip hours simultaneously press SET and MODE buttons for more then 1 second while Trip hours are displayed.<br />The total (engine) hours can not be reset.<br /><br />Speedometer:<br /><br />Also the digital speedometer has Trip meter. It shows the distance (through water) the boat has traveled since last reset.<br />Press MODE button on speedometer until TRIP is selected. To reset Trip meter to 0 press MODE and SET at the same time.<br />Trip distance is kept in memory by the external battery power so if you disconnect the battery the current Trip meter data will be lost.<br /><br />If You do not have the manual for Your Yamaha outboard You can find many Owners manuals (for newer outboard) at Yamaha US website:<br /><br /> http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/service/servicehome/home.aspx <br />(Left meny)<br /><br />As a side not on Yamaha guages:<br /><br />In case You should need a combined Speedometer-Fuel Management (FM) guage in the future Yahama has a new such guage:<br />(before You had to buy a separate Yamaha FM guage)<br /><br /> http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=56938&posts=2 <br /><br />So now You can have 3 main functions in two guages:<br />Speed+ Fuel Management guage<br />Tachometer guage

Bo,<br /><br />Do you no if the total hour is the one logged in the instrumnet or if it shows what is stored in the CPU in the engine (if it gets stored at all)?<br /><br />I replaced my tach with a used one that already had some numbers in it, my previous tach didn't show the time.<br />Are the numbers I see from the my engine or from the previous engine?
