I was looking at the service chart in my F40 owners manual. It states an amount in engine hours and also in months/year do do inspections. <br /><br />For example, 100 hrs (6 months) 'Inspection/replacement of fuel filter'<br />Does this imply if your usage is low in hours then go with the 6 months instead? I will do about 40 hrs this season on top of the 13 I did at the tail end of last summer when I got my motor?<br /><br />I'm sure most people just check/replace everything yearly if usage is light.<br /><br />I don't want to go 'over kill' on the maintenance, just take a sensible approach.<br /><br />It lists some things as Yam dealer only. Everything I see is very basic (except replacing timing belt). <br /><br />Do you have to follow this religously to keep the warranty?<br /><br />Why does it not mention checking/replacing the impellor? <br /><br />Does the service manual list more stuff for maintenance?<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Andy

hello<br /> its all there keep reading.<br /> the pump inspection is there as well. look in the 05 marine tech guide.<br /> some of the maint can be adjusted some should not. its a matter of understanding what each subsystem does and how it affects the rest. if money is tight blow off the oil change and tune up the cooling system, dont blow of the gearlube inspection. I reccomend checking gearlube each month for water and changing it twice a year.

Welcome to 4 strokes...and the maintenance stuff nobody wants to take about when comparing with 2 strokes. I can talk...I have a 4 stroke and several 2 strokes.

most of the stuff on the F40 is doable if you have the service manual and a basic understanding of what it does. even timing belt replacement. however on replacing the timing belt if you screw it up bad things can happen. its fairly simple though. most of the stuff on the F40 is cheap. if your more comfortable changing the fuel filter twice a year then do it. but at least every other year tune up the cooling system.

Rodbolt<br /><br />How do you tune up the cooling system? The book mentions simply connecting up to the hose attachment and flushing, for servicing the cooling system.<br /><br />Are you refering to something more sophisticated?<br />Thanks for the info.<br /><br />Andy

periodicly replacing the t-stat,pressure control grommet and water pump before the over temp alarm is coming on is a tune up on the cooling system. let the cooling system fail and crack a head and you will see what I mean. the parts dont live forever. its way cheaper to replace them every other year than once every 7 years with a head as well. If I get a chance I will try to scan some of the 05 service schedules and see if a mod can post them someplace
