I am very close to buying a 1986 Suzuki 150 outborad. The compression is between 89 and 94 across all cylinders. Can anyone comment on whether this a good test result?

Any input would help. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1985 Suzuki 150 Compression

don't have my shop manual handy (its about 1200 miles away!) but there is a "minimum" before recommending a freshening. someone will probably speak up with that number.

i can say my 87 200's still show 110-115.

other brands seem to show less pressure - think its johnny-rudes that typically test around 95-100 psi.and be OK at that level.

with a spread of 5 psi and under 100 psi the % is marginally over the rule of thumb 5% "limit".

my gut tells me the test pressure should be a bargaining chip to get the price reduced as its close to needing a rebuild. then if they bite, i'd run it till it dies.....

Hmmm I'm thinking that might be a bit low. My 95mod Suzuki DT85 has 124 psi across the board. Maybe try some ring free, or something similar' see if the rings have built up some carbon. Then test the comp before you buy.
