I have a 2005 200 HP Four Stroke Yamaha with less that 50 hours on it. At idle, not in gear, a black substance bubbles up out of the prop with the air bubbles. After a few minutes you have a black film across the back of the motor and boat. Is this normal?

Also, when put in gear at idle speed (600 RPM) the motor makes a grinding noise. Bump it up to 700 RPM's and it goes away. Is this normal?

I have twin 225 HP Four Strokes on another boat and don't experience either problem with them.

That's all I've noticed. Can this be adjusted or is it computer controlled?

its all puter controled.its time for a dealer. could be about anything. but usually its rich if its leaving a black film on the hull. a quick test with a diagnostic lamp or a laptop can rule out a stuck t-stat and a few other problems. the rest we will just hope your tech has decent test abilities.

Thanks. Will it hurt it to run it like it is? I'm on vacation with the boat all next week and can't get it back to the dealer before then.

The dealer said I had to much crankcase oil. They took out 1/2 quart and made some other adjustments. Black bubble problem is still present but not as severe. Was told the ginding sound was the lower drive shaft vibrating.
