2001 2000sx on a 23ft Cobia cc. The problem is the Tach/guage indicates a low reserve oil level. The tank is full. I ohmed out the oil level indicator and it works fine. When the main tank is emptied, it fills back up. Everything seems to be working except the low reserve oil indicator says it is empty. I have the factory service manual but it does not go into detail for this problem. It seems to be the CDI or it may be the Multifunctional Tach.

Thanks

DW

ok
lets get on the same page. the engine tank is on the engine. the remote tank is in the hull. is it the remote tank indicator that is giving a low condition? if the remote tank is low automatic oil transfer is supposed to be inhibited. if your getting a low oil indicate on the middle bar or arrow only start hunting for a short between the CDI and the tach. remember low'closed switch" lights the light

Re: Yamaha Low Reserve Oil

It is my brother's boat. We worked on it yesterday so I am going by memory. The Yamaha factory manual does not cover the tach. The next time I get down there, Venice, we will check out the wires between the CDI and the Tach. What color wires and any other tips would help. The problem started about a year ago.

Thanks

DW

Re: Yamaha Low Reserve Oil

if memory serves the green/white. from the cdi through the alarm harness. the system should not transfer if the cdi has a low oil in the remote tank signal. the switch in the remote tank is normally closed and opens to light the low remote oil level. if there is a break in the blk/red wire from the remote tank to the tach it will flash 1 bar or 2 bars or a yellow light to indicate low remote tank level. but automatic oil transfer is not supposed to happen. if the green wire or greenwhite is open between the engine and the tach I think it will set the indicator on the tach and oil transfer wont be affected. the actual ground path for the transfer pump and the tach indicator is from the blk wire at the remote tank. the blk red wire is the return path for the tach low level indicate. if its open you will get a low level indicate with a normal system function. there are two wires in a square connector at the tach. one is green/red the other is green or green/white. check the continuity from the green or greenwhite in the 4 pin square connector at the tach to the black/red at the engine oil tank. should have 0 ohms. ill have to study the diagram again but seems you have an open circuit someplace.so ya have to reverse my earlier statement. I misquoted. on the low level indicate low actually turns off the light and an open lights the light. sorry about that :) . this is one of the few signals yamaha uses no ground path as an indicator.
