Hi,

When I cruise, I am running my 140 4 stroke at 5000-5100 RPM, making 20 knots. Will this shorten it's life? On an average fishing day, I run at that speed for 2 hours, the rest is trolling at 2200 RPM.
should do it ok. just remember if your going to run it at its rated HP the cooling and fuel systems must be maintained and not allowed to degrade. if they do the motor may expire. that means the tell tale may work but the cooling system is not 100%. if the subsystems are not maintained 100% the motor cannot run at 100%. if maintained it will run 100% for a long time.
Being a 4 stroke based on an auto engine design, your DF140 should love you for cruising at 5Krpm, rather than wot at 6Krpm. WOT wont hurt it, but part throttle will baby it.

The very first, and most essential step in maintaining your engine is the acquisition of a factory Service Manual. It will answer the questions about what to do to what and when.

Good luck.
Hmmmm. You didn't say, but I assumed that you are cruising at part throttle and you are propped to get to 6Krpm at WOT.

If I was wrong and you are only getting 5Krpm at WOT you need to reprop.
yes, 5K would by part throttle, it is propped to wot at 6000RPM.

I live in Panama and getting the manual will be a bit difficult. I know change the oil and filter, gear oil ever 100 hours...any other things I should be doing. It has 230 hours on it.
Yes, I'd pull the lower leg and change the impeller plus clean up all the anodes. Also change the fuel/water separator and check the fuel filter. I'm assuming saltwater use? As JB says, try to get a manual, failing that your owners manual tells when to do most things, it just doesn't tell you how to do them! Good luck.
I live in Panama and getting the manual will be a bit difficult.

Go to http://www.brownspoint.biz/, send 'em an email and ask if they ship international ... bet they do.
