Is this motor large enough for this boat, not looking to break speed barrier, just to and from fishing grounds. Boat is around 3300lbs

Is the merc a V-6? If so, I think you may be alright. Just make sure it is propped correctly.

top speed of 32mph fully loaded...that's if you ever get it out of the hole. That thing should have at least a 150 on it.

My 2005 Trophy catalog shows the 2002 with a 125 as minimum and a 175 Optimax as max hp. With the 125, you won't break many speed barriers getting to your fishing. Good luck, and enjoy the boat

Had a 125 on a 17.5 ft gull wing fiberglas. Would do 39 max with a 17" prop; gear ratio was 2:1. Course I skiied with that prop so I had good hole shot and acceleration. Gonna bet you would be lucky to do 32 with a 15" on that boat. You are definitely low on the power but for cruising you should be ok. 32 is a right smart speed for sunday cruising.

Just get a tach and insure that you are running at the top of your rated rpm's at WOT...probably around 5250 to 5500 to save you from engine problems with carbonization and burned up pistons. If not get another prop with less pitch if low. Check the prop section for pointiers.

Mark

I agree with everyone here that the 125 hp will be a little light. I had that motor on my 2003 Trophy 1802 and it was quick. But the boat weighed half of what my 2005 Trophy 2052 does. Look for one with a 150 hp or better would be my advice.

Also, check out this article from 2003 by Popular Mechanics.
Popular Mechanics - Choosing the right engine...
