I have a late sixties Pacific Mariner powered by a 4 cyl mercruiser. I tore apart the dash last summer to clean and rewire everything. Well ong story short I had a family member help organize stuff for me. Well now that I am getting ready to put everything back together the idler gear for the steering wheel is missing and I can't seem to find it. I would rather not buy a whole new setup if I can get around it. Does anyone happen to have one laying around or know the specs on it so maybe I can get one made. Any help would be great. Thanks ahead.

For the Price of a New Helm,...........And Cable,............

You're Wasting your Time........

All helms are Not the Same,........
At the Very Least,...... You need the Name of the Manufacturer,+ Their Part #..........

No,.......

Of the Helm.......

Boat manufacturers Don't build this Stuff,...... They use Teliflex or Morse, or Whoever's "Parts" that they Need......
Same goes for about Everything In/On a boat,.... But the Actual Fiberglass Hull......

Where do I find that info. Under the dash there is a tag that says bayliner but that's a boat manufacturer. The sticker on the steering wheel I believe says mercruiser. I will check tonight.

You need to know whether you have a Rotary, or Rack,+ Pinion helm,.......
Being So Old,.. I'd Guess it's a Rotary unit.....

You need to know How Long your cable is........

Then you can order a Like Unit........

Last I looked,......
A Helm was about $100.00......... A Cable was about $100.00.....
But,.......
If you buy a Complete, Helm,+ Cable,..... It'll run you About $150.00..........

My Guess is, you can Probably find 1 here at iboats Megamall,......You'll have to do your own Search.........

Thanks bondo,I'm going to tear apart my garage and hopefully it's there somewhere. I would say rotary also as I don't see anything like a car rack and pinion if that makes sense?

A Rotary system will have a Small Round aluminum box under the dash behind the wheel........

A Rack,+ Pinion is a Long Skinny box........

If you were to Buy New,...... You can use Either 1 that'll Fit in behind the Dash,.....

Good Luck in the Shop,.......... I Haven't seen the Walls of My Shop in Years...............
