I'm trying to find the gross weight of a 1983 galaxy 19' cuddy cabin, with mercruiser 470 I/O engine. I can't find any specs on the boat, but I did find that the engine longblock weighs about 435lbs. The reason I ask is because I am considering buying this boat, and my car has a 2000lb towing capacity(dodge intrepid). It doesnt have to go far, I only live about 5 minutes from the marina, no highway driving. Anyone ever towed a boat this large with a car?

Did you try http://www.nada.com ?

Of course I can pretty much tell you there is no way it is under 2000#. A really wild guess will put you closer to 4000#.

Think this way, the block is 435#, which probably makes the engine around 600-650#. Trailer is about another 750#. That is 1350# to 1400# without the boat, drive, gas, etc.

You will need another vehicle.

I know for a fact that my small 18 foot open bow 3.0L on a trailer is just a touch over 3,000.

So I'd guess your 19 foot Cuddy with a larger motor will be at LEAST 4,000.

I'd bet your front wheel drive Intrepid wouldn't be a able to get enough traction to get it up the ramp. So I'm sorry to say that you'll need either a.) A bigger tow vehicle or b.) A much smaller boat.

On the upside, this is the sort of setup that sometimes makes for great entertainment at the boat ramp!

Can you give the exact manufacturer name and model? I found GALAXIE BOAT WORKS, GALAXIE BOATS-CA, and GALAXY BOAT CO on nada.com.

Only Galaxie Boat Works had a 1983 year listed, and the closest I could find was a model 1900 V.

It had a dry weight of 2,600#. With that starting point 4000# seems like a real good guess.

No. Your Intrepid is light for this boat. Not only are you weighing the boat, but trailer and fuel, and ice, and fun things and all. You can easily run 4000# on that rig. They sold Galaxies in N. Texas so I know what you are talking about.

Mark
