Re: Shifting Reverse Problem

this needs to move to the I/O section.
but if the cut out switch and cables are fine its usually a worn fork in the shift mechanisim or a corroded busing on the upper shift shaft in the upper housing, they are a pain but need to be cleaned and greased occasionally

Re: Shifting Reverse Problem

Probably more like the shift slide is corroded and not sliding back over the cable in reverse smoothly. When you replace the lower cable, the slide needs to be bored out some to remove the corrosion. Also if you are not careful when reinstalling the drive, you can bend the end of the cable and it will produce the same problem.

Re: Shifting Reverse Problem

I change the cable twice and is doing the same thing,I was just thinking in the possibility of the killing swicth is damage because when the engine are off you can change manually the shift cable but when I turn on the engine only go Forward and get really hard to shift from Forward to reverse.

Please Thank you to all for take the time to Help me out with this problem, I'm going crazy with this situation.

Re: Shifting Reverse Problem

Nuttin wrong with the switch, its doing what's its suppose to do. There is four parts to that shift system, cable, slide, shift arm and shift fork. Being you've changed the cable twice, then it must not be that. Being you are able to shift in forward and not reverse, tells me the shift fork and shift arm is moving and not frozen. That leaves the shift slide, take the drive off, remove the shift slide and remember the turn count on the nut, clean out the hole in the slide and reinstall.

Re: Shifting Reverse Problem

Wait I may be confused? Is it killing the engine when you shift into reverse or is it not coming out of forward until you kill the engine? If the engine isn't dieing when you shift, then it may be the switch not killing the ignition.
