Help...01Yamaha 40 won't start

The engine turns over but after a rough start, engine kills and won't restart. Just had carbs completely cleaned @ dealer. Dealer said it ran fine for them after cleaning, but two weeks later...no go. Wondering if it could be a possible fuel pump issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

After only two weeks, I would take the motor back to the dealer and ask him to run it for you. If it runs well there, you have a problem in your own backyard. If not,he should be reputable enough to get it going again.

depends on what broke. if its water in the fuel its not a dealer issue, if its no spark its not a carb related issue. just depends on whats wrong, as a general rule on any outboard service start with a spark and compression test. its quick and its easy. you can also get a quick check on the flywheel indexing when the top plug is out.if the flywheel is properly indexed and the spark is good and the compression in acceptable ranges that only leaves fuel. either too much or not enough. why did the carbs have to be rebuilt?

it sat up for a while and when i finally ran it, it wasn't running good. it now starts but it's not turning up the rpm it should. it usualy runs 5400 at wot and now only 3800. it sounds bogged down.

sounds like you still have some fuel issues. start by cheking for fuel restictions from the liquid in the tank to the pump, then check or replace the pump and recheck the carbs but only after a spark and compression test.

it appears to me that your carb repair was not done properly.make a phone call and i an sure if your job was done right they will honor your requested complaint. sometimes too much supposition by mechanics make for a confusing situation. I have experienced this on some of my previous questions to this web site. WE NEED TO HAVE THE EXPERTS MAKE ANSWERS MORE SIPLIFIED SO THAT THE NOVICES OF THE BOATING WORLD CAN UNDERSTAND THEIR REPLIES. GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOD LUCK.

alotto<br /> your assuming to much. its very possible the problem is fuel/carb related. its also very possible its not.<br /> but in your future posts ill make sure i dont confuse you.
