I have the Yamaha fuel management system, which I believe is a 1997 system. That was when the boat was repowered.

I believe the pitot tube has fallen off inside. I can easily blow air into the hose, but there is no reading on the speedo. How difficult is it to put this hose back on? I assume I drop the lower unit as if replacing the impeller, right?

Also, I would like to use the GPS speed data into the Yamaha fuel management system. Unfortunately, I was told the system has to be a 98 or later. My speedo has a 4-pin connector for the wire adaptor that hooks to the GPS, but my speedo has only 4 jump switches and I was told it had to have 6 switches.

Would a 1997 Yamaha speedo have the 4-pin connector? What would be the purpose of that if it can't accept nmea from the GPS?

Rodbolt? Ray?

for that you will have to look at the rigging guide. if your fuel management and GPS are compatable there is an instruction page in the guide.
if the speedo hose has fallen off the speedo its easy to stick it back on. what size motor are we dealing with ?

Sorry, Rodbolt, forgot to say: twin 1997 SWSII 2-strokes. Where can I get a copy of this rigging guide?

Basically, what are the steps to put the speedo hose back on?

Thanks,

push the hose on the nipple and secure with a wire tie.

Rodbolt,

I got the speedo working by hooking the hose to the other engine. Thanks.

Now, speedo works and fuel management gauge reports gph, but not mpg. There is a 3 or 4-prong connector on the back of the fuel management gauge - does this connect to the speedo?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Richard

Re: Yamaha fuel management speedo GPS

if the speedo and the fuel management are compatable there is a 10" harness that connects the two guages via a 4pin connector. the two guages MUST be within 10" of each other AND powered by the same key on power, all of the information you need is in the rigging guide from the 1997 or so to the 2006 or so rigging guides. wheather or not the installing dealer reads or is even aware the guides exist is another story.
while your in and playing look closely at the fuel flow sensors and tell me if they have 3 screws or 4 on the caps.
its a safty issue.

rodbolt,

I took another look at the back of the gauges. Coming out of the speedo is a a rubber plug containing a bunch of wires and a larger (1/4" diameter) black cable with 4 prongs in the end.

The FM gauge has a female 3-prong connector. Does the 6Y5-87122-20-00 wire connect the black cable to the 3-prong connector?

I will check the number of screws on the flow gauges.

Thanks
