I am currently looking to buy a dt65 (1989) and decided to seach the forum for info about the engine. I keep reading the same thing (my engine dies at 1/2-3/4 throttle) and even the few that have brought the engine to a mechanic havn't been able to figure this problem out. I'm just curious, has anyone conquered this problem and if so what did it require?

Overall i have heard good things about suzuki's but this problem is all over this forum and I haven't read one person who has solved it?

I solve them all the time. most are fuel starving issues, dirty fuel systems are not brand specific. if the compression is good and the crank is properly indexed its eithe lack of fuel or an ign issue.

I think the main problem with this forum is that once someone solves a problem they don't come back and report, so the thread is kind of open to interpretation!

I think there should be some reinforcement, you get a fine if you don't post on the forum at least once a month!!

But thanks for clearing it up rodbolt, it did sound like a fuel starve issue, and I noticed once someone recommended pumping the primer bulb when the problem starts usually the person with the problem didn't reply, meaning the trip probably worked!

On some of the older models the hood was lined with what might be described as foam rubber. Or just open cell foam.

As this foam deteriorated small bits become airborne under the hood and can make their way in through the carb bowl vents. Little tiny bits that suck up into the jet(s) and can settle back out as you do this, and that, to try to repair.

If the hood is foam lined and you see sort of gritty stuff adhering to the oily parts, it would be something to investigate.
