Hi I have what I believe is a 1989 or 1990 200 hp yammaha. The id serial number plate is missing and would like to try and retreave as much info as possible for this engine. It is very simular to the 200etxd ( have picked up info for that one) except the casting numbers an the cylinder block are 6g5-01 and cylinder heads 6g5 02. the 200etxd refers to 6g6 series numbers. I have been told you can find out info from numbers on the block frost plug? (758057). And a 25" shaft. 2.6 l carb. I know this seems like a shot in the dark but maybe someone has gone through this. Thanks

Around here you get in trouble if the motor does not have the serial number. Not checked often but it does happen.

Casting numbers really don't tell you much. The way to spot whether it is a pre 1990 model is the electrics. If the CDI is mounted on the rear it is a 1990 or newer. If they are mounted on the side it is a 1989 or older.

Thanks guys, Yes Ray the CDI is on the side. When i purchased this boat the previous owner said they where both 1990 models. Looks like he may have been wrong with the OB. Thats why I picked up info on the 1990 model. probably the same # except for the D ? thanks again.

Ray, I have to correct myself. If the cdi has the ignition coils attatched it realy is on the rear of the engine. sorry for misinformation.

Yes the 90 model and later will have the coils mounted on the bracket. Earier models had the coils directly bolted to the exhaust plate.
