Hello,New to forum.
I,m about to do the VST maintainance for the first time on my 2001 225ox66.What is the proper cleaning method for the filter and should the gasket & o-ring be replaced?
I just tackled this for the first time this weekend on my 1999 200 0x66. I don't know if the previous owner had ever checked it, so I'm not sure how old the gaskets/o-rings were on my engine. I found that the VST tank gasket was in good condition but seemed to have stretched out a bit and was difficult to get back in place due to the extra length. I replaced it with a new one I had on hand. The o-ring looked to be fine.

I was surprised at how clean the inside of the VST tank was. I just used a little gasoline to clean off the VST filter with a bit of paper towel, there were only a few specks of debris.

Here is a tip that I probably read here.. make sure and loosen as many of the screws on the VST tank as you can reach before removing the tank from the engine block. Some of those suckers were hard to crack.

Also, make sure you de-pressurize the fuel system before draining the VST tank. I used the drain on a fuel pressure gauge, but I believe you can cover the schrader valve with a rag and 'deflate' it that way

Good luck..

-- Tom
Yes, make sure you have the appropriate sized Philips screwdriver, a #1 I believe.

I had a hell of a time removing the screws on my last boat with a '97 Ox66 (250hp).

Hold the VST filter up to a light. You will notice better if its clogged with very fine debris.
thge only way to clean the O2 sensor is to remove the sensor from the holder and the holder from the block.
the 01 250 OX66 may be under a tech bulliten about the draw tube, have your dealer look it up.
Thanks Rodbolt but is that tech bulliten for the 250 ox66 only or does it include the 225?
Also would you happen to know what size socket you need for the o2 senser?I want to make sure I have the right tools before I begin removel.
Thanks
