F115 lower unit noises

I put a stainless prop on my 02 F115 yesterday and took her for a spin to check the rpms and performance, works great! However when I put it into gear now at idle speed the lower unit is making a growling noise. Does it in forward or reverse but as soon as you give it any throttle it goes away. The only thing that has been done to the lower unit was a drive shaft replaced last year because of a scratch on the sealing surface for the lower unit seals. After that I put about 5-6 hours on it with the aluminum prop and no noises. This was the 1st trip this year. Any ideas?

Did you get a new thrust washer to match the prop with it?

No, I didn't get anything with it. They told me to use the washers from the front and back of my current prop(yamaha aluminum). Is there something else I need? Please forgive my ignorance if this is a stupid question but I've never been through this before. By the way it is a Michigan Match stainless prop if that makes a difference. Thanks.

The customer service person at Michigan Wheel said that the washers from my old prop will work, no need for other washers. I could sure use some ideas here if anyone has any. It's killing me not being to take the boat out!

Remove the prop and see if there are any signs of wear on any of the gearcase surfaces and or the prop hub. Many times the sales people are not right.

and occaasionally we just get a bit of gear noise due to prop design.
as the drive shaft loads and unloads at low speed it can set up a chattering sound from the clucth. doesnt seem to hurt anything. without seeing your current attaching hardware I cant comment other than to support what Ray said.
you may double check that the wave washer and 2 spachers and the lock collar was propely installed on the drive shaft.
