Hi all, I have been having problems starting my early 80's 55hp yamaha after the winter lie up. I took it to my local dealer who stated that my starter motor was "lazy" as it will not turn the engine properly even with a brand new battery. He quoted me £600.00 for a new one. after I picked myself off the ground I got round to thinking of alternatives. Would a visit to my local starter motor refurb shop be a good idea or should i take a very large hammer to it and smash it to pieces. Could I clean the motor myself or is it a specialist job. I have limited knowledge of engines and i am no way an expert. If its easy I would attempt it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Yamaha 55 starter problem

why dont ya test the system?<br /> the brushes are replacable and the armeture can be turned but a voltage drop test on the cables usually will tell ya its a cable issue or connection issue
