I have a Yamaha 150 carbarator outboard (~2000). Was running perfect then engine lost power a for a while and eventually died. Seems to restart after I let it sit a few minutes and press on the fuel bulb. Sometimes has good power for a short period of time and then looses power and eventually dies. Filter appears to stay near full but I did notice some air bubbles in the filter. Any ideas? thanks.

Re: Loss of power

Howdy glz.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Unlike automobile engines, outboard engine cylinders are almost completely independent engines.

When power is lost it is most often because one or more cylinders have stopped making power. If that loss of power is from overheating or fuel starvation continuing to run the engine runs a good chance of destroying it.

I think your engine is either overheating or starving for fuel, or both. Do not put it under load again until the cause of the trouble is fixed.

Re: Loss of power

Looks like the water pump but no hightemp alarm. Checked compression and all cylinders are 115-125 so looks like minimal damage done if any. Can't find leak gages anywhere in town. Checked high temp alarm and works fine. Any idea if they are set at too high of a temp on these engines?
