Re: Yamaha digital tach install question
Ern
repost on a new thread.
as far as the digital tach, not command link, there is NO function for oil pressure or oil level on the F motors nor water temp.
the audble tone is the same tone for low oil pressure, overheat, low battery, water detect, start engaged with the stop lanyard out, engine stall if it twins.
a flasing bar will indicate which alarm just got triggered.
the mode and set switches simply allow either trip hours, total hours or no hours displayed. holding the set and mode while trip hours are displayed will reset trip hours.
total hours are not resetable.
its not uncommon to have unused wires,
never saw a read lead on the 6y5 tachs, sure your not looking at the speedo?
on the tach blacks are ground, yellow is key on power and blue is tach light.
green is tach send.
on a two stroke the oil level sensor monitors tank level, either in the engine mounted tank for inline engines or the remote tank on V 2 strokes.
if the level in the tank drops below a safe level the center bar flashes.
if the level drops to a critical level, less than 20 min of oil remaining the far left bar flashes and the audible sounds.
the dip switch settings on the back simply select 6 or 12 pole altenator,2 or 3 wire trim sender and 2 or 4 stroke engine.
if set incorrectly the indicators will blink all the time for oil and overheat, the trim bars wont work or the tach will read 1/2 or double.
out of the box they are preset to 12 pole,2 wire and 4 stroke but always check them before installation.
the odds of the rigger knowing whats up is 50/50

Ern start a new post and let me think a bit. there is an alphabet soup of tachs and some will require an adapter to adapt your engine to the late style tach.
if you have a dealer nearby look at the 07 rigging guide and the 07 marine technical guide.
