I've just received this older motor and would like to get it going the Model number is 2G2 but I can't read the Serial number due to fading. Kind of looks like and old johnson but different. Non-recoil type of starter and has 2 sparkplugs on the rear. Says to mix oil with the gas so I'd think it was 2 cycle. I need info about repair guides if there are any.
Thanks guys!

Re: Goodyear Outboard Motor

Does it look anything like the black one in these pics? Mine is a 1954 Goodyear Seabee 5 hp (made by Gale, a division of OMC). The other is a 10 hp Wizard (made by Merc). These were given to me from a person who bought forclosed property and was just wanting to get rid of junk that was there. I put new plugs, fresh gas, and a new impeller in the Goodyear, and it runs like a Champ. It will be my kicker on Project Skanky Beast. The Wizard is pretty rough, lots of saltwater corrosion, and the lower unit is missing. I may just strip it and repaint it and turn it into a static display piece, just because I have always wanted a little outboard sitting in my house for no good reason.

Your Goodyear Seabee was made by OMC's Gale div. for sale by the Goodyear tire retailers. It was made in 1947, it is a 5hp. These are fairly simple motors. Maybe a generitc aftermarket book on old outboards from the library can get you started.

Re: Goodyear Outboard Motor

I have a Goodyear SeaBee 5 in outstanding condition. My father bought this motor when I was around 10 (40 years ago). Two weeks ago I took my son to my parents home to go fishing. We decided to try the motor and see if it would run. I know for a fact it has not been started in 10 years...perhaps 15. We turned on the gas, primed it twice and gave it a pull. It roared to a start. We took it to the lake, rented a boat and had a great day...though we only caught one catfish.

The motor is blue and has all the housing in tact. I'll try to post photos and serial numbers.

I recently acquired a Sea Bee as well. Looks to be good motors. Mine is a '57 25hp motor, hasn't been ran in 15 years. The guy I bought it from had it laying in his shop. Gave it two new plugs and some fresh oil/gas and hooked the battery up and she started purring. I am still going to go through it though, but they are good motors from what I have heard.

I wasn't able to find anything using those #s. My generic manual shows Sea Bees from 1955 thru 1958 which may have been all the years that Goodyear sold them.

If it's a small single then it's most likely a Gale 3 horse. They are rock simple, easy to work on and there's plenty of parts motors since many retailers sold them under their own name just as did Goodyear. I have a '48 & a '62 labeled as Montgomery Ward Sea Kings. They were both incredibly simple to bring back to life---the '48 needing nothing except the usual cleaning on the fuel system from gascap vent to crankcase and servicing the magneto---no new parts needed!

Any of the generic service manuals such as Seloc, Intertec or Clymer should have a section on the 3 horse Gale singles.

They are a great little 'fishing motor' and are particularly adapted to trolling if that lights your fire. They would be ideal for a square stern canoe but too heavy for a side mount on a standard double ender. Many small jonboats are limited to 3 horsepower as well. HTH, Tom

Put the dash in the number, making it 225-3612, and it becomes a 1957 3hp made by Gale. Gale model 3D14G. I only have two of them, looking for a third.

I have a 1947 Goodyear 5hp 2G3 SN 157102 The Decal is located just below the rope pull - Most of the decal is missing - No decals are available from the decal suppliers. I need a picture of one so I can have a decal made.
