model#571.765 serial#741.Usually don't collect sears outboads. This motor was very clean and all there! Are these good motors? Can you find impellers and points for these motors? Any body out there had one of these old motors? Thanks, Small Block :)

I had a late 50's or early 60's(not sure) Elgin 7.5. It broke down on me at a local reservoir once, and I tried to get it fixed, but they are very hard to get parts for. Sears no longer carries them, and when I went to some marine and outboard shops, they laughed at me when I said Elgin. I was able to find a few parts on the internet, but not the ones I needed. If you look hard enough I'm sure you will be able to find a few parts for your old Elgin.<br /><br />Brent

Small block, I wish I had all your answers. I can share what little I know. I'm actually needing answers re: Elgin OB's too. I've requested help determining the year for my 7.5 and got nothing back on that yet. I am looking at your numbers (571.765 741) and my numbers (mod 571 973, sn 9731 1740)... they're different. I've had 2 Elgin OB's myself the 1st one slightly older than my 2nd which I still run. Both worked just fine but the motors themselves were very different. We know Sears didn't manufacture any of 'em. We both have Elgin 7.5's and maybe they're very similar -OR- maybe not. My 7.5 is Sears Roebuck & Co., Sears-Simpson LTD Canada, bronze color, tank seperate, 2 blades on prop, fiberglass hood & 4-sale.<br />Are these good motors? I don't know how good, but "hey, they're not bad". I know 3 other guys that have used them (5 motors going back 20+ years to present)and they start and go fine, no breakdowns and no complaints. Also they do seem to run smooth even at low rpms which may make them better at trolling than some other OB's, I do like that.<br />Parts...? I too would like to know where to find Elgin OB parts. I'll be interested in hearing any info that may get added. TY, mark
