I just rebuilt my motor. It runs great but has one problem. After it sits for a while it won't start until I take the plugs out and squirt some gas in the cyclinders. Than it will start and run good the rest of the day. It just won't get gas in the cyclinders by squeezing the primer bulb. Has new fuel pump and it seems to work fine.

Does that engine have a choke, primer or enrichment solenoid?

suhematic, It does have a choke and it is working properly. It can sit for three or four hours and will start fine. But sitting over night it won't start and I tried everything. But if I pull the plugs and put some gas in the cyclinders it will start and run all day. Beats the hell out of me why it won't start in the morning.

Re: Help 1990 Force 120

Run a compression test on this engine first. I highly suspect it has inadiquate compression.
If you have good compression, pull the plugs, and find the dry ones. The carb associated with those plugs needs cleaning, especially the float needle and pickup tube. Again, compression first,as all the cleaning in the world will not compensate for low compression.
Now, if you have a carb that spits at you,or makes a funny noise, it may be a broken or stuck reed.

12Footer, Thanks the compression is good, new pistons and rings. All four pistons are dry. I will overhaul the carbs this winter. The motor runs good after first start.

Billum, one more question...When you pump the primer bulb, does firm up? Or does it not quite stop "taking fuel"?
If so, the pickup in the tank, the primer check valves, pinhole in the fuel line,or leaking leaking are the areas to look at. Even if you have just replaced the primer bulb, you may have gotten a bad one. There are thousands of bad ones on the shelf. I know,as I've been "taken" twice in the past year.

12Footer, Thanks again. You may be on to something here as the bulb gets almost firm but a can still pump it with pressure. I will check the things you mentioned.
I appreciate your help.

Re: Help 1990 Force 120

I would have a real good look at that choke. Even if it clicks, are the butterfly valves closing fully? (both carbs)They must fully close. I wouldn't rule out an ignition failure either. When you attempt to start, do any cylinders fire? Next time it won't start, give the carbs a wiff of WD-40 while cranking. If it starts immediately, then you know its the fuel system. If it doesn't start with wd-40, it points to ignition. Good Luck!!! :)

Thanks everybody for the help.

Just for kicks, for 12Footer

If it takes a hen and a half, a day and a half, to lay an egg and a half, how long does it take a cork-legged woodpecker to kick the seeds out of a dill pickel?

Re: Help 1990 Force 120

billum a lot of 120-125s have that problem. I've come to the belief that the cause is a defective check valve {antisyphon} in the gas pump. My bowls are dry after 24 hrs. Before localizing the problem I put a 1/4" hole in the deflector plate of the carbs and give them a few squirts of pemixed gas to start. PLease get back to me if you fix it.
