I have purchased a gearcase seal kit for my 1956 30Hp Big twin and both oil seals are not nearly as 'robust' as the originals. The seal lips are a lot thinner and narrower, my question is are better seals available somewhere?

My 56' RD18 30 hp has a badly deteriorated air filter in the silencer housing made of some kind of fiberglass insulation material. Anyone see an issue with just getting rid of it, or should I try to find a foam replacement from another aplication.

Info only, you have helped me a bunch thought I would share. I just has a local machine shop make a new shift rod bshg for my 56' 30 Hp Rd18. Clymer manual says to discard old one and I had tapped threads in my old one to remove it anyway.
