Force 40hp carb repair kit. Should the Idle mix screw come with it??

Bought a Carb repair kit FK10325 for a 1994 Force4 40HP. There is no idle mix screw in the kit. I was expecting it to be there. Should this part have been in the kit??? If so, I need to send it back, but I want to make sure.

My $50 junk motor is running!!!!! It will crank and run fine in forward or reverse, but the carb linkage on top (Throttle lever??) which makes contact with the curved piece that moves when you turn the tiller handle is not adjusted correctly for the Start or the Shift mode. I was able to...

    Mercury 9.8 Sidebowl Carb questions.

I was cleaning the sidebowl on one of my 9.8 Mercs and installing a new gasket kit. Couple of questions. Looking at the parts diagram for the carb, part number 31 is a jet. When I unscrewed the nut that covers where the jet goes, there was no jet in there, at least I cannot see a screwdriver...

Please have a look at these wiring pics. 1994 Force 40HP

What is your opinion of these wiring pics. If you look closely you can see two wires that seem to have been cut on this part. I don't really know what this part is...rectifier????. It is located on the left side of the motor looking at the back way down almost at the base. Also coming off one...

Metal core plug wires. OK to use on Mercury 9.8?

I made some new plug wires for a Johnson motor. Book said the metal core wires were just fine so for 35cents a foot and a couple of bucks for some ends I saved a lot of money making my own. Can I do the same with this 9.8 Mercury? The wires on it now are original and 37 years old. It is about...

    What plugs for Merc 9.8??

Motor came with some mismatched plugs. One was a Champion L78V and the other was an NGKBP6HS. This was an old motor that has not been on the air in many years, so I am guessing the plugs were just stuck in there at some time to keep air out of the cylinders. There is no ID plate on the motor so...

Mercury 9.8 missing ID# plate. How can I tell what year made. PIC ADDED!

I have a couple of 9.8 Mercury outboards. Both are missing the ID plate with the serial number. How can I narrow down the manufacture date on these motors? I have one that I finished up the lower end and am ready to start with the electrical and carb and need to order some parts for. Is there...

Merc 9.8HP Where does this O ring go? Pic

I had to replace the water pump housing. The old metal one was crumbling apart. The replacement Mercury part is a composite that came with the bottom plate and an O ring. I cannot find any place that this O ring will fit that allows for the pump to be bolted back down. If you look at the bottom...

take a look at this pic and give me an opinion please

I am working on a 70s Mercury 9.8 lower end. I have to swap the short shift shaft for a longer one in order to make this lower end work for the motor I have. Swapping the shaft is no problem, but if you look at the pic you will see that the mating surface for the lower end is boogered up pretty...

How does the crankshaft stay lubed in an outboard.

I have been learning how to fix my outboards. I was just wondering how the crankshaft and all the stuff hooked to it gets lubricated during operation? I understand car engines and lawnmower engines as they have oil in those areas that is either pumped or gets oil slung on it. How do...

I need to buy my wife a boat.

I need to buy my wife some sort of runabout so that she will have something that she enjoys being in rather than my old fishing boats. I see all sorts of nice 70s 80s runabouts for cheap money, but I do not know anything about which companies put out a quality product that would be worth...
