    2001 Maxum 1800...Whats this for?

    Hello... New to boating and recently purchased a 2001 Maxum 1800 SR. I have attached a pix of the engine cover. Whats the hole for on the front? Whats its purpose. Looks like it had a cap of some sort. Thanks to all the people that post. I have spent hours learning about boating on this site.
