Hi All, I have a 25hp merc (1988) on our pontoon boat that has ran well for a few years. We mostly just put around at low speed most of the time. Last weekend it started to run poorly and will not idle. I changed the spark plugs but that did not help. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

1997 Fourwinns, 18', 5.7L volvo penta, Cobra outdrive.
While turning sharpley and accelerating at low speed I can feel a growling or vibration in the boat. The U joints were checked and lubricated recently.
I am thinking gimbal bearing, Any advice or opinion is welcome.

Just wanted to thank those who helped me with my engine removal and rebuild. I had her in the lake this weekend and she ran great. I am sure I will need you all again soon as I/O boats are new to me. This forum is great, I had quick and accurate advice that I surely needed.
