    Volvo Outdrive I.D.

Yep! Been there and dealt with that. I hit it with pb blaster periodically for months. One day I just grab it and it came off.

    Volvo Outdrive I.D.

I start swearing just thinking about working on any OD. I find pulling the upper gear box a ton easier. It's a lot lighter and less cumbersome than trying to wrestle with reinstalling the whole drive. I've swapped the lower to duo prop while its on the boat too. Ours is an AQ280.

You probably don't need to pull the whole OD, just the upper gear box. Once you pull it, you'll be able to some of the internals condition.

Can you guess how much I paid for all this?

What you paid is a open ended question until it's in the water and running.

    Bad Upholstery a Deal Killer?

Upholstery's not a big deal. You need a decent machine designed to handle the heavy material. A home machine will likely struggle. The 1st yr or 2 we thru towels over the bad spots, then I got a industrial sewing machine and redid it. I sort of like doing it and since then I found other...

    VP 280 Transom Plate Removal

I went thru a lot of what you are going thru about 6 or 7yrs ago. We had to repower, rebuild the PDS and go thru a lot of the drive and bellows. I think I found it was easier to install the drive without the upper gear box on then bolt it on later. The previous owner of our 1977 CC Lancer with...

    anyone use fishing line?

Aren't you suppose to replace the line on your reel because it deteriorates over time? I don't know how to sew, that's why I have a sewing machine. They're very handy. Polyester thread is UV resistant.

    anyone use fishing line?

Sounds like you need to use heavier thread, or lighten the tension on the thread. I use bonded polyester thread. V92 size. I also have a larger machine. It all depends what size thread your machine can handle and needle size snd type. Big box sewing stores may not offer heavier threads. They...

    Compression Test Readings

#5. 0 dry. 150 wet. Rings. Might want to recheck that one. I agree with pulling the engine. The rest points to possibly heads. The #s are all over the place, I'd rebuild or replace. If your doing just heads then your probably polishing a turd.

    27ft Boat Prop recomendation

I think you need to get your engine tuned and running properly b4 determining if the your prop set is wrong. Make sure the carb is working correctly and check your timing and that if the dist advances. You might want to check total timing advance while your at it. I'm curious what props...

    Top end speed

WOT rpm's are more important than speed. You don't want to over rev or lug your engine at wot. So, what were the rpms you were running with each of the props at wide open throttle?

    New Boater Prop Troubles!

Yes, let the cylinder hit maybe 4 or 5 times. Each cyldr needs to hit the same # of times to be consistent. As Scott06 said, after your initial comp tests you can squirt oil into a cylder then test again. Squirt oil into the cylder being tested, not all of them. If comp significantly rises...

    New Boater Prop Troubles!

I think there should be a spacer b4 you put the frt prop on. You can google v/p 280dp and 290dp dou prop diagram. I think the order is. Spacer, frt prop, locking ring, lock nut, spacer, back prop, spacer, plastic washer, cone nut, bolt. I think you need to install the prop correctly then...

1979 bay liner liberty out drive help!!!

Have downloaded a factory service manual? Its very handy. You should be able to find and download one free. Looking at the wiring diagram there should be a black and a brown wire going to the motor. I'm pretty sure 1 wire is for up and the other for down. It's been yrs since I worked on...
