    1993 75hp vrs 90hp Mercury

Considering buying a 1993 75hp Mercury but really want a 90hp. From doing a couple of searches, looks like carbs are different for the 75 and the 90. I would guess the porting is different too, similar to the old 7.5 vrs 9.8 Mercury. So the intake and exhaust ports would be larger holes and...

2001 90hp Yamaha tilt and trim question

Question of tilt and trim for a 2001 90hp Yamaha long shaft, please: Helping my neighbor with his 90hp 2001 Yamaha and the trim and tilt work ok up and down at idle or shut down. Odd serial number, Looked everywhere???

I have looked everywhere to see what year this 4 cylinder, 50hp (or 45 or 40hp??) block is and just can not find it. I think it is an 84??? Serial number is 7187484 on a 4 cylinder 50hp. I do not think it is US and not Belgium either. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Need wiring diagram for a 398 832075A14 stator for a 84 50 4cyl

Finally ran out of frayed wires to splice my 398 5454 stator for my 84 50hp 4cylinder Mercury. Now I find I can not buy an OEM 398 5454 stator but the 398 832075A14 stator adaptor kit is supposed to work. I have a new 398 832075 stator but the enclosed instructions all describe a 3cylinder...

    76 50hp crank in a 84 50hp block

Anybody ever install a 1976 50hp 4cylinder crankshaft in a 1984 50hp 4 cylinder block? (I obviously have a good 76 crank but a bad 84 crank!!) 76 has a main bearing single row needle bearings (same as crank needle bearings) and the 84 is a double row needle bearings for the main bearing. If...

How far to go with rebuild on powerhead?

When rebuilding powerheads (for a budget rebuild!), I usually reuse pistons/rods if pretty clean, use all new bearings and new rings and new seals. I have also been replacing the reed valves with new ones. However, I saw somewhere here that reeds rarely go bad. Although I would think with 8...

84 50hp Mercury 4 cylinder rear water jacket cover leak

I have got an 84 50hp 4 cylinder Mercury that is in excellent condition except for a water leak around the #1 top cylinder spark plug hole. Pulled the power head, got the rear water jacket cover (or cylinder block cover as Mercury calls it) off and discovered the cause of the water leak. Fair...
