Need some help with which side of the nut goes toward the lower unit. Manual shows the diagram but just doesn’t look right to me - tapered side on the outside. Is that correct?

Needing to separate the lower from the upper. Looks like 4 nuts below the cavitation plate and two above. Will this do it? I'm needing to have my prop shaft seals replaced and wanting to just take only the needed unit to a shop to have it done.

Upon removing my outdrive to grease ujoints, splines, etc, I found two rubber flaps with metal encased in the middle of them down in the exhaust portion of the drive - they were pretty crunchy and looked like they had been there awhile. Are they in fact exhaust shutters? If so, how do you go...
Boat is new to me and am wanting to pull the drive and grease the u-joints, gimbal bearing, splines. I would like to grease with what was used before and not mix greases (if that matters) so... What color is Mercury/Quicksilver Gimbal bearing and u-joint grease? What color is the spline grease?
