Lifted the cap to the rafters and got it completely off the bottom. Cut the channel in the bottom to get the cables from the console and the driving cable out. Vacuumed everything I could from the deck and pulled as much of the rotten...
Guys I have an 89 Avanti I'm restoring and after I popped the cap I came into the problem of how to get the wiring out of the bottom of the boat. It's ran through a 1/2" ply with thin glass top channel molded into the deck and side of the hull. I put some pictures up. I'm cutting out the deck...

I pulled the carpet last night. It was something I could do relatively easy with the hour I had to do it in. New pictures of how bad the damage is to the deck. The PO cut some blocks to support the new ply he laid over it. It worked but...

Well, my body is sore and I have cuts from the fiberglass but the cap is off. I feel like I won a small battle.
Bought a sawzall, full ventilator for fiberglass & some beer. Tomorrow it's on.

A few more pictures. The pump for the trim is super dirty. Should I take core samples of the transom all around it or just in once place?

So about those oh crap moments. I took the gray carpeted wood out and sure enough, completely rotten under.
