Still trying to make it run, trying to make sure the timing is correct.

First time dealing with them. When I first opened the motor up, it looked like it had the originals in it. the outsides had just crumbled. I am going to buy a cap meter, and recheck the condensers. In another life, I used to work on an Mk25 Fire Control Radar system and when I saw a cap sweating...

    Yes, the motor would help. It is a JW10 1953 - 1954

I did find one tonight, that showed the throttle/Timing lever to be pushed to the far right, looking from the front of the motor, or at total advanced. to set the points with a meter.

I work on this until I get mad, then wait a few weeks then start again. It started and ran fine for a little while, then stopped and would only run for a few seconds. I had used a carb kit with what I would call a rubber-type bowel gasket and when I took the carb apart I noticed that it was...

    JW-10 will start, then die.

The points will arrive today and I will pull the top off, and check the key and key-way when it comes apart. Thank You.

It flows very well. I actually removed the tank and let fuel run into a large glass jar, and the fuel ran at a very good constant stream, for three or four minutes, it did not seem to be impeded at all. When I did the other work on it i removed the valve and cleaned the assembly with the filter.

I removed the prop since I am using a 35 gallon barrel and last summer when i tried to use it the motor seem to get to hot and shut down quickly. and the tube from the fuel to the carburetor got really hot, i believe because with the small can, it was getting cavitation. It does not help that it...

When I put the carb kit in, I removed everything and soaked the metal parts in Berrymans chem dip carb cleaner. before reassembly I used air from my 220v air compressor at the same time using a brush kit for small carbs with the wires that you can run down small passages. I did remove the cap to...

I took off the prop of my Jw10 to run it and make sure it would work before I a couple of hours to use it. It started fine, water was coming out and it was idling and would come up to a higher speed. adjusted too far and got a miss-like sound out of it. Then it shut down like it was not getting...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

Did a compression test, and have 70 in each cylinder. This was dry, the fuel off, and has not run in two weeks.

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

New impeller, good key and is pumping steady water. I will try the bubble filter. Did try to run it with the gas cap removed no difference. Did do a blow test that used compressed air and was just putting my finger on the needle slightly and it easily seals, and lifting my finger up off of the...

JW-10 starts runs for a a minute or two then shuts off, can restart but shuts off quickly

I wonder if running in the trash can and heating up, is possibly causing a vapor lock in the fuel system. The tube from the fuel tank to the carb, is definitely very warm when it shuts off, not enough to burn, but very warm. I am doing this in my garage here in Phoenix AZ. So we are at 105+ when...
