I think I'll pull the lower unit and see what's going on with the impeller. And see if I can blow low psi air through the tell-tale. If I can be confident that the cooling system is functioning I'll fire it up again and calmly see where water is or isn't coming from. In hind sight the spark plug...
Or 7217467 is on the plaque on the motor, albeit very hard to read some of the digits. the other number I posted earlier was written in the manual from a previous owner who knows when
It is a 2 stroke
Pulled a family boat out today that hasnt run in a few years. It's been in a heated shop, under a cover, and was drained of fuel and fogged before sitting. Half the day was spent moving other **** out of the way that accumulated in front of it over the years lol.
Mixed up some fuel, threw the...
Oh F*** I bet that's it. It's one of 5 motors at my hunt camp and this started in 2023. I didn't hunt in November 2022 because we had a baby, so someone else did the LU gear oil before winter storage and I bet $100 they pulled that bolt thinking it was the drain.
Lol one of the other motors...
I saw that thread when I was searching.
But in my case with the LU fully removed I cant push the shift linkage down to engage F, I can pull it up to go into R though. Pushing down shouldnt have anything to do with a stripped screw or the linkage brass coupler, right?
I'm thinking this might be...
Dropped the LU thinking the shift linkage had slipped, it hadn't, so I pulled it right off and manually tried to shift the linkage. Just like when it was on the motor it smoothly shifts from N to R but won't go into F. Rotating the prop does nothing.
Any thoughts?
Oh man, I fall somewhere between ordering the right part but being sent the wrong, and also a stupid human being for not checking. The kits I ordered off Amazon last year sent me bearing kits with a 1.25x1.98 but the item description said 1.5x1.98. So the 1.25 wasn’t sitting on its spindle bore...
I’m having an issue with the right side hub seal. If I install the lip seal flush with the hub I can barely get the castle nut on far enough to get the cotter in. I then chewed through the seal and I guess the hub isn’t on the spindle far enough so I get a slight wheel wobble.
I can pretty...
Yea good call, don’t know how I overlooked that as I know a guy who welded a skeg repair plate on the motor for me and it is perfect. Just takes a smoked rack of ribs for payment
I bought it used a couple years ago, its a 1992 with an equally old Merc so I don't know how it was treated it's first ~30 years. But she doesnt leak much, will do 33mph, and has good compression, so I can't complain!
what’s the best repair? Drill out the two rivets, cut the mashed section off, then bolt on a new aluminum ‘U’ piece at 1/2” thick using the rivet holes?
Boat is a 16ft side console with 60 2 stroke
Hopefully pics attach…
