Just broke the 20/hr mark on the new mill and it's time for the first oil change.
Wanted to touch base with you guy's to find out if there's a suitable oil/filter (that won't affect the new engine warranty) that is good for my engine other than what Merc recommends in my owners manual...

I'm almost done breaking in a new Merc 4.3/MPI/Alpha. I was advised to wait until the break-in period was over because the engine would likely 'loosen-up' a little in the process. Apparently it has.

I'm pretty happy with the performance of this old Quicksilver/alum/4-blade and will keep it as a spare after I match it closely with an SS/4-blade.

Got a new 4.3/MPI/Alpha setup in my old Zeta (19-cuddy/3000 lbs. empty).
Currently running the old alum/4-blade/18p that was on the 305/Chevy we pulled before the repower.
Still doing break-in but have briefly run her out to check speed/rpm @ WOT. GPS says -42 mph @ 4700 rpm.

Got about 5-hours on the old Zeta's new mill (4.3 MPI/Merc/Alpha).
So far so good. My Lowrance GPS says she's maxing-out @ about 42-mph @ 4700 or so rpm (short burst only w/mechanic on board during sea-trial).
All the Merc test-data (Merc marine website) I've read on this powerplant...

I've waited 25/yrs to put a real-boat back in the water; that became evident when I launched her.
Long shallow slope on the ramp. Unhook everything/check that plug is in/back her in/watch in mirrors till she floats...

The new engine is in and she's pretty much ready for sea-trials. I'm so-o-o stoked I can hardly wait!
She originally had a 305/Chevy Mercruiser but that's just been replaced...

I've purchased this (1995?) GPS/Dual Sonar unit and am about to install it in my 19'-cuddy. You guy's have probably heard this one a million times but I'm hoping for some sage advise so I can get the install done right, from the get-go.
My unit includes the speed/temp sender...

Well, if it don't beat all. I get a call from my mechanic. He tells me he was about to drop the new 4.3 Merc into the boat only to discover it didn't line up with the old engine beds. F$#%...
Frantically, I call around to see if I can get somebody to glass-in a coupla' new engine mount...

Well Dudes, after much deliberation I've settled on the Merc package for my repower. (I can hear you sighing Don)
If I had a bigger chunk-a' change (or, a 'whack' more money) I'd probably go with the Volvo.
But... my mechanic (a Merc/guy) who'll also be doing the install and servicing...
