Why would the u-joints be slapping around, they seem OK to me. I can't think how there would be enough play unless the bolts were loose, and they were not.
Can I replace the gimbal? And do I even need to if I can replace the U-joints if they are the problem and bolt it all back together?
We trusted our beautiful boat with an OMC 5.0 EFI to a mechanic that turned out to be a real disaster. He pulled the outdrive for some reason and then disappeared.
I was about to re-attach the outdrive and noticed that the bellows were not connected and looking further the hose clamp is...
I have a 1994 Four Winns Candia 194 with the 5.0 EFI. I love this boat. We had a 'clunk' in the outdrive last year and took it to a mechanic. The mecanic pulled the outdrive and then left my boat outside all year, and never fixed it, and then left it in a parking lot and told us to come and...
My boat has a '91 merc 3.0. I had it on the lake a month ago. Its starting to get cold so I went to winterize it today. I cranked it for maybe 10-15 seconds and it wouldn't start (not unusual, it hates me). I stopped cranking to give it a rest as I usually do, but when I flipped the key...
I had quite a bit of water in my oil in my last run, which has been the first and only good run of the season so far. When I pulled the boat out of the water I checked the oil and found it milky and up maybe a quart.
I had figured it was a head gasket, but after pulling the head the gasket...
I want to remove my head to check the head gasket and check the head for warping - possibilities to a water-in-oil problem.
Is it necessary, as the manual says, to remove the rockers and all of that? I would think the head would lift right up, unless it is difficult to get the push-rods back...
This is on my 1990 Mercruiser 3.0...
I need to remove my valve cover, and my fuel line from the pump to the carb runs right over the top. Removing the nut attaching the line to the pump was easy enough, but I can't budge the line from the receptacle on the pump. On the carb end I believe the...
My 1990 Mercruiser 3.0 has water in the oil. Its like a milkshake, and the level is up about an inch on the dipstick over where I usually keep it. It had overheated due to impellor failure and lack of a warning buzzer (and lack of me paying attention).
The plugs don't show signs of moisture...
Hey guys - the search isn't working on the forum and I am (or was) about to head to the lake... when I checked my oil level and found it milky.
I just had the boat in the water last weekend and it ran great. Great WOT, cruised around a bit, ran fast across the lake a few times, etc.
This was...
For starters, I've got a 90/91 Merc/GM 3.0.
A month ago I bought a cheap starter from ebay. The nose of the starter broke after about 5 starts. The consensus was that it was literally cheap, but there were marks on it indicating that the flywheel was rubbing on the starter, and possibly...
My sterndrive's engine compartment (its a 91) is getting a little nasty. Old greesy oil caked up on the sides, and just general stuff from water being in there in the past, etc.
What kinda of cleaners can I use in there with out harming the boat? Is engine degreaser safe? What about cleaners...
I've got a 1990 or 91 Merc 3.0 with, apparently, no water shutters in the exhaust. I'm going to re-pull the tube tonight and check, but I just got new bellows and noticed the shutter was gone. I got water up to the cylinders (all 4) a few months ago when coming to an abrupt stop, which is what...
Here it is the day before labor day (or night rather), and I just got my drive back on after replacing all of the wear items, and thought the boat was ready to go. Went to fire it up, and hear "click". Urgh.
I yanked the starter and it tests fine, but I can't get anything from the solenoid...
I've got an alpha 1 that I am putting back together. The manual says to adjust the trim limit so that the measurements from bolt to bolt is 21 3/4 inches. That is significantly less than what it was at when I bought it, and it doesn't look like the drive is barely above the trailer height...
I'm about to put my drive back on after replacing all of my bellows. The exhaust bellows required the removal of the shift shaft so that you can access the inside of the bellows to pull them on.
I can't remember which way the shift lever was oriented! It has a hole through it, so I can only...
