I cannot find the throttle shaft and bushings for sale. The shafts have some very small groves worn in them, the bushings appear fine, but ideally at this point I'd like to replaces the shafts and bushings.
What I did was lube the bushings with silicone, and added an o ring between the carb...
Replaced the top plates, no change in how the engine runs, but I did spray around the throttle shafts lightly with starting fluid and low and behold the right side to the top carb throttle shaft is leaking for sure. I was careful to make sure nothing was going in the airbox and 6 times in a row...
Tested the ignition coil primary and secondaries they test good. Spark jumps a 7/16th gap on both wires.
Checked the flywheel index, its good.
Checked timing while cranking and it is damn close to 1 ATDC.
Fuel pressure is ~5psi while revving the engine to about 3500rpm (pressure gauge isn't a...
So 3 years ago the VRO went bad, I converted it to the old school pulse pump on the block. I pulled that pump apart and it looks brand new still. Diaphragm looks real good shape, nothing in the screen. I'll see if I have a way to test the fuel pressure and see what I'm getting. I'm going to...
Yep. Took them all the way out and checked them visually. Also dissembled both carbs and ran them through the ultrasonic cleaner then blew everything out with air.
The only part I noticed that concerns me is there is some play in both throttle shafts, not sure how much play is normal. I didn't...
J50TSLEC Remote, electric start, primer on the key, 2cyl.
I couldn't get the engine to fire up this spring, I found the primer solenoid had gone bad. I replaced that and the fuel lines to and from the solenoid. Now I can get the engine to fire up without much hassle, but it will only idle about...
J30ELE55
I bought this engine from a friend last year and had no major issues all last season. It has always ran a little on the rough side at low RPMs.
I looked in the shop manual on how to adjust the low speed mixture on the carbs and went out tonight to fire it up for the first time this...
**it is a 1976**
I was gifted a 1975, or maybe it is a 1976 (serial# 41419184) Mercury 500. The guy told me it runs fine, but the wiring harness is shot. I've determined that the internal and external harness is in fact toast.
Here's the problem I am having. First depending on where I look...
Model # J30ELES it is a 1990 model
I had the battery die on me while operating at the end of last season and I am now trying to figure out the problem
I checked for loose grounds and found one. Fixed that and it charges very slow, when I put my meter on the battery terminals the voltage...
Model number is J30ELES
When in no wake zones or when trying to dock then engine will act like its loading up and die. Sometimes even idling in neutral for more than a min will cause it to die. You can usually tell its coming as the engine will start to bog. Then it will start right back up...

I think I know what the problem is here, but i have never messed with an outboard and have only owned my first outboard for about a month now.
so the first thing i notice is when i get on my boat (its docked for the summer) i smell gas. It cold starts fine, and so far as far as i can tell it...
